Stormy Spring
This week, a good friend of mine lost his wife to a short, yet brutal bout with cancer. He's my age, a teacher and coach with two kids just like me. He's one tough son of a buck, and I'm proud of him, his family, and most of all his wife for the way they handled the situation. In typical western fashion, they all squared off against the cancer and slugged it out toe to toe; side by side until the bitter end. They did it all without one "poor me" or "why us".
As fate would have it, I was out for a ride with my wife taking pictures the day she finally passed. When I heard the news, I immediately went to this group of photos and searched for a shot that I could use as a tribute. I chose this shot because I think it represents the storm that has been this spring. Adversity can hit you right where you're are, at any time.
But there's more to this shot. The storm won't last forever. And the rain will wash away the filth, helping the new season take hold. The light will eventually turn to green, and you will continue on your way.
Like my own, his is a family of Christian faith. It is comforting to know that life is temporary, and like this shot there is more to this than meets the eye.
These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
1 John 5:13
